Khatta Meetha

Direction: Priyadarshan
Star Cast: Akshay Kumar, Trisha Krishnan, Makrand Deshpande, Rajpal Yadav, Neeraj Vora
Rating: * * *

Priyadarshan and Akshay , together work of these two great personalities is enough to let the viewers increase their expectations from a movie before watching it. Although, this is the weakest outcome of their effort, yet it will leave you with a smile on your lips.

The movie is about Sachin Tichkule (Akshay Kumar), a road construction contractor who doesn’t get success and has taken many loans. Trigun (Manoj Joshi) and Suhas Vichare (Milind Gunaji) are Sachin's corrupt brothers-in-law where Trigun works in the municipality and married to Sachin's second sister, Suhas, is a road contractor. Kulbhushan Kharbanda is Sachin’s father and Anjali (Urvashi Sharma) is Sachin's sister.
A bridge collapses because of improper construction, taking many lives. Figun, Suhas and others who were involved in the constuction, tricks Vishwas Rao (Tinu Anand) , who is a driver of the Tichkule family, to let him become the cause of the mishappening and later kill him. Azad Bhagat (Makrand Despande), who has lost his wife and son in the incident, knows the real criminals and decides to bring justice. Sachin’s ex girlfriend Gehna Ganpule (Trisha) adds to Sachin’s problems as she turns out to be the new municipal commissioner.
The story keeps on changing with every scene, which is the feature of Priyadarshan’s flicks. He doesn’t offer any constant story. Unlike its title, the movie neither has any Khatta nor Meetha scene but it still keeps its viewer sticked to the chair. Akshay Kumar is a real comedian. His frustrations are believable. His way of presentation is outstanding. Trisha Krishnan does her role with ease. Urvashi Sharma is sweet and has done really good job. Her expressions are impressive. Rajpal Yadav gives his best. Johney Lever, in his guest appearance is funny.
Kalbhushan Kharbinda is usual in his act. Markand Deshpandey justifies his role. Actors playing roles of Akshay’s brother and Brothers in law are decent. A few double meaning are really enjoyed by majority.
The music is average and keeps the flow of the movie. The comedy is excellent. It is much better than Akshay’s recent movies like de dana dan and housefull. The dialogues are sharp. The movie is very much relevant, as it revolves around the problems of common man. Akshay kumar and Rajpal Yadav are the centre of attention. Dress up of Sachin Tichkule is awesome.
Khatta Meetha is neither sour nor salty but a decent comedy.

Milenge Milenge

Production: Boney Kapoor
Direction: Satish Kaushik
Star Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Satish Shah
Rating: * * 1/2

Shahid and Kareena are back together with their superb chemistry in Milenge Milenge, after Jab We Met. But this time their effort failed to spread the magic among viewers. Boney Kapoor’s Milenge Milenge was stuck for five years and brought excitement in the fans of this cute couple.

Movie deals with the love story of Priya (Kareena) and Aman (Shahid). Priya, an orphan who is in search of her prince charming, meets a tarot card reader, Sunita Rao (Kirron Kher). Sunita predicts that Priya will meet her Mr. Right in next 7 days in foreign. Next day only she gets a chance to attend Youth festival in Bangkok. Aman steals her dairy in which she wrote about the qualities she wants in her partner and starts working accordingly. He meets Priya at 7 am in 7 colors clothes, Priya finds Sunita’s predictions true. To get Priya, Aman starts pretending to be a guy who doesn’t drink or smoke. But actually they both own completely different natures. Aman is a smoker, drinker and loves to flirt but Priya is a old traditioned girl who believes in true love. The only thing common in them is their belief on destiny.

When Priya comes to know about Aman’s reality, she leaves everything on destiny without giving Aman, a chance to prove his true love. Rest of the movie deals with how they get back together inspite of not knowing even each other’s address or contact numbers.

Satish’s work will surely raise your belief on destiny. Milenge Milenge has less appeal to the young crowd. The only thing interesting in the movie is, Shahid and Kareena are seen together on screen after their breakup.

Shahid's and Bebo’s Chemistry is credible. Shahid is mild blowing. Kareena does well, the role of old traditioned girl. Music by Himesh is lovely. Satish Kaushik is good in his small role. Delnaaz Paul’s act is remarkable. Aarti Chhabria is mediocre. The most important message of the movie is, don’t worry if you lost your love, just leave everything on destiny.

Milenge Milenge is an old fashioned and average love story.

Badmaash Company

Direction: Parmeet Sethi
Production: Aditya Chopra
Star Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Meiyang Chang, Vir Das, Anupam Kher
Rating: * * * 1/2

Badmaash Company is the first ventured direction of actor cum director Parmeet Sethi. However, the movie doesn’t reflect that it is directed by an inexperienced director, Parmeet. Script was written by him only in six days but the work doesn’t seemed to be done in hurry. Shahid is back in his negative role after Kaminey movie.
The story is of four friends- Shahid (Karan), Anushka (Bulbul), Meiyang (Zing), Vir (Chandu); who want to get rich and ultimate success through shortcut. Obviously morals don’t have to do anything in shortcuts. Human’s greed doesn’t have any limits and so is with these friends.

To fulfill his dreams Karan leaves his home. With the partnership of his girlfriend (Bulbul) and two friends (Chandu and Zing), he starts his business of imports of branded shoes and their business keeps on varying according to the circumstances. Due to problems their group splits and from the top of the world, Karan falls back to the ground. Problems keep on increasing in his life. With the partnership of his maternal uncle, he and his same friends outshine in business again but this time he has the support of his father also.
After disappointing Paathshaala, Shahid is back with a good one. He gave a strong performance. Anushka has done far better as compared to her work in Rab ne Banadi Jodi. Her act very well suits the character. Vir and Meiyang justify their role. Anupam kher in the father’s act is work is outstanding. Music by Pritam, is hit.

Badmaash Company is a good entertainer and a must watch movie.

Raavan

Direction: Mani Ratnam
Production: Mani Ratnam
Star Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Govinda
Rating: * *

Ratnam’s Raavan is the modern-day version of a hindu epic, Ramayan. However the role of the character 'Raavan' is quite transformed. He is not villain any more, he helps the needy people. He is worshipped by masses. It can be said that he is a MODERN RAAVAN.
Story is basically about Beera (Abhishek Bachchan), Ragini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and Dev Pratap Sharma (Vikram).
While boat riding a married women Ragini (Sita), wife of Police Officer Dev, gets kidnapped by the negative shade Beera (Raavan), as Beera wants to take revenge from Dev. After kidnapping her, he doesn’t know what to do. All he does with Ragini, is making her listen his meaningless jhik..jhik..jhik sorts of noise. There are some scenes in the movie in which police is looted easily.
Police attacks only when they give a valid reason to Beera to take revenge on the police force. Ramayan’s concept made it predictable. As one can easily guess rightly that what would be the next act. Just before the end of such a frustrating movie, Ragini starts liking her captor. Movie seems like focused more on doing wild acts.
Govinda as the forest guard, with his rare scenes made the movie bit funny. Best part of the movie is cinematography.
Abhishek Bachchan is exposed in a compelety different manner, he acts ably. Aish justifies her role. South Indian Vikram gave a sparkling performance. Ravi kissan and Priyamani have done their best. When it comes to music, Behne De and Ranjha Ranjha are superb. However  background music by A.R. Rahman is more lovely than the tracks.
A few weeks earlier, Prakash Jha presented Rajneeti packaged the other important epic, Mahabharata, is far better than Ratnam’s disappointing Raavan. Despite of involvement of the other face of Jha’s coin and big names of bollywood, the movie didn’t work upto the expectactions. It is more like a documentary than an entertaining movie.
Raavan is quite disappointing, predictable and average movie.

Bollywood's Rajneeti

Production: Prakash Jha
Star cast: Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ajay Devgan
Rating: * * * *

As the title itself suggests that the movie deals with the dark politics whose concept is similar to Mahabharata, produced and directed by ten times National Award winner Prakash Jha.
The story revolves around those powerful people in the third-world countries, who corrupt the politics to fulfill their dirty ambitions. However with the increase in evils it became impossible to differentiate between the heroes and villains.
The movie is about owing political power between the opponent claimants of the Pratap family. After the elder brother suffered a paralytic stroke, the leadership shifts to his younger brother. Veerendra (Manoj Bajpayee), son of the elder brother hopes to get the thrown, but the younger brother gets the control. Prithvi (Arjun Rampal), son of younger brother inherits the powerful political legacy, but his cousin, Veerendra, proves his biggest political opponent.
Veerendra plays a new game: He picks up Sooraj (Ajay Devgan), a young leader whose identity’s secret is revealed much later. Prithvi’s brother Samar (Ranbir Kapoor), least interested in politics, had been pursuing PhD and was settled with his girlfriend abroad, slips into his family’s dirty politics after his father passed away. Indu (Katrina Kaif), daughter of a wealthy industrialist loves Samar but gets married to Prithvi, is also caught in this web. Brij Gopal (Nana Patekar), plays the role of mentor and guide to Prithvi and Samar in the battle.
Rajneeti is all about fought elections in which money, corruption and power are the instruments, cheating and deception are commonly used to defeat the opponent. Sacrifice of love and friendship for political benefits makes it an emotional flick.
Every actor gave a sparkling performance. Though Katrina has not played much but she has performed well her scenes. Manoj Bajpayee did his negative act superbly. Ajay Devgan is remarkable. Arjun gives best performance of his career. Nana Patekar justifies his act and utters the cruelest lines positively. Ranbir Kapoor’s performance is speechless. Musically, the movie has rich pleasing variety.

Rajneeti is emotional, entertaining and the real face of politics

Jaane Kahan Se Ayi Hai

Direction: Milap Zaveri
Production: Mukesh Talreja & Nikhil Advani
Star Cast: Ritesh Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Vishal Malhotra, Sonal Sehgal, Ruslaan Mumtaz
Rating: * * *

Jaane kahan se ayi hai is a romantic comedy movie, written and directed by Milap Zaveri. Love story of a man from Earth and girl from Venus, sounds quite interesting and at the same time slightly weird. Everyone in Zaveri’s movie is searching for love.
The story is about Rajesh (Ritesh Deshmukh) who has been in search of love since he was a child. He was hopeless and frustrated until he meet’s Natasha (Sonal Sehgal), sister of Desh (Ruslaan). Natasha blows away Rajesh's mind. Natasha tries her hands at direction in the film Rajesh is working for. But when unlucky Rajesh proposed his love then she responds by saying that she thought him as a friend only.
Disappointed Rajesh when questioned God angrily about his love then an unknown and adorable beauty falls right onto his arms. Rajesh carries her home and leave her there to think aloud the situation with Kaushal. After making sure that she has nothing to say of herself, they christen her as Tara.
Tara is from Venus who comes to earth in search of true love and requests Rajesh to help her. She asks her search device to search the most loved man in India and the result is Desh. Tara wants to get Desh but actually what happens later is totally different from what’s planned. Rest of the movie deals with how soul-mates find each other. One can easily predict the rest of the movie after the entry of Tara.
Jacqueline Fernandez is sweet in every frame. Ritesh is cute but is trying too hard. Vishal is fantastic. Supriya is good. Sonal and Ruslaan are perfectly cast and justify their role. Special appearances by Akshay Kumar, Farah Khan, Sajid Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Amrita Rao and Boman Irani make their presence felt. Vishal Malhotra is fantastic. Music is average.
Jaane kahan se ayi hai is fun, entertaining and cute love story.

PAA becomes Son

Direction: R.Balakrishnan
Production: Sunil Manchanda
Star Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Paresh Rawal, Arundhati Naag
Rating: * * * *

Paa is Balki’s brilliant work after his extremely lovable Cheeni Kum (2007). Flicks of Balki are often simple, easy to understand and different on the other hand.

Story isn’t focused on the illness; it is more about a 13 year old boy, Auro (Amitabh Bachchan), who is suffering from Progeria. He lives with his Gynecologist mother Vidya (Vidya Balan) and her mother. Due to the disease Auro looks like a 70 year old man but mentally he is of his age.

During Vidya’s student days, she was in relationship with Amol (Abhishek Bachchan) and got pregnant. Amol wanted Vidya to abort the child as he considered the child to be a hurdle in his political career ambitions. But Vidya’s decision to keep the child led to her break up with Amol. Rest of the movie deals with how they get back together.

Wih Auro’s act Big B proves that he is the paa of all actors where acting is concerned. Vidya Balan plays the role of a mother effortlessly. Abhishek Bachchan was preety good. Arundhati’s act was impressive. The child actors were very good.

The music is average but sweet. Makeup by Domini Till, Christien Tinsley deserves special appreciation for turning Big B to a Progeria patient.

Paa will leave tears in your eyes as well as smile on your lips.

Love Aaj Kal

Direction: Imtiaz Ali
Production: Saif Ali Khan, Dinesh Vijan
Star Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rishi Kapoor, Giselle Monteiro
Rating: * * * *

Love aaj kal is Imtiaz’s next direction after a cute love story jab we met (2007). Certain things doesn’t change with time, of course the process changes, this is what the movie’s theme is. Today, a couple like Jai (Saif) and Meera (Deepika) could be found anywhere, the break ups and getting involved with someone else but the movie proves that purity and feeling of love never changes.

Jai doesn’t believe in eternal love. According to him, true love exists only in books and one has to be practical. After having relation for more than one year with Meera, their life takes them to different directions. They accept this easily and decided to have a break up as they don’t believe in long-distance relationships. To describe love kal Imtiaz put in the character of Veer Singh (Rishi Kapoor) who falls in love with Harleen at first sight. But soon after some days Harleen’s family takes her to Kolkata, when Veer comes to know about this, he also goes to the same place to get his love.

On his meeting with Jai, he finds it strange to observe the absence of passion in love matters. On the other side Jai is shocked to see how Veer could have been so silly about Harleen. Rest of the movie deals with how Veer and Meera realised the existence of true love for each other.

Saif did a fabulous job. Deepika plays Meera so effectively; you're left wondering who else could have done the role. Rishi Kapoor as a love guide was brilliant. The girl playing Veer Singh's love interest is suited to the character. Dialogs are funny. Music is super hit. Imtiaz Ali's direction was so successful in traversing between two eras and he told the story superbly.

Love aaj kal is cute, funny, entertaining and romantic love story.

My name is Khan & I am not a terrorist

Director:   Karan Johar
Producer:  Gauri Khan
                   Hiroo Johar
Star Cast:  Shahrukh Khan
                   Kajol
                   Jimmy shergill
                  Soniya Jehan
Rating:     * * * *
Shakespeare’s statement “What is in a name?” probably needs modifications as success has a lot to do by a name. Bollywood once again proved that its not just an entertainer but it has a lot to say with a different style, with an attempt of being an eye- opener to the society which believes that most of the global terrorists are muslim.
Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) suffers from aspergers syndrome, a kind of autism. Loud noises make him nervous; the color yellow freaks him out, but he learns facts quickly. When his mother dies, Rizwan moves to US to live with his unsympathetic brother (Jimmy Shergill) and his wife (Sonya Jehan). Rizwan faced difficulties in adjusting to the new & entirely different environment; he gets a job as a beauty product salesman. Mandira (Kajol), a single mother who works at a beauty salon saved his life, as he was almost getting killed by a ‘speeding’ tram & their romance started afterwards this incident. Rizwan's intelligent mind charms Mandira’s young son Sameer.
Mandira and Rizwan are wed. But the happiness of Khan Family doesn’t last long. It is badly turned around by the 9/11 WTC attacks and a communal bashing incident at school proves fatal for Sameer. Mandira blames Rizwan for Sameer’s death and regrets having the last name Khan. Mandira leaves Rizwan and their started his mission to meet the president with the message that “My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist”.
Karan Johar walks in with the right movie for Khan at a time when he desperately needs one to revive his magic on his audience.
The high point of the film is its performances. Shah Rukh Khan's Rizwan Khan and Kajol's Mandira cannot easily be forgotten. The two K’s (Karan & Khan) for the first time tries something beyond their normal stuff of melodramas and song sequences. The theme is noble and is being weaved in the most delicate manner; strong enough to melt any hard heart.
Performance-wise, this undoubtedly towers as Shah Rukh's best act. He never once loses grip on his character, despite the mannerisms, the awkward body language and the distinct speech style. Kajol's Mandira is a complete winner, she simply blows you away. Tanay and Yuvaan are brilliant. Karan Johar comes of his age. He tells a complex story with simplicity, without forgetting that a movie is primarily meant to entertain. Karan Johar and Shibani Batijha's script covered several events that have made headlines in the recent past. Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's audio tracks are really beautiful. Manish Malhotra and Shiraz Siddiqui styling were apt.
My name is Khan is emotional, moving & very funny at the same time.

The Ever Funny 'atithi'

Director:   Ashwani Dheer
Producer: Amita Pathak
                 Kumar Mangat
Star Cast: Ajay Devgan
                 Paresh Rawal
                 Konkona Sen Sharma
Rating:    * * * 1/2
Time to remove your tiredness after serious movies with all terrorism based or love stories. This movie has numerous scenes which will make  your heart laugh out.
The story is about Puneet (Ajay Devgan) and his wife Munmun (Konkona Sen Sharma) who stay together with their kid in Mumbai. Their life changes when Lambodar Chacha (Paresh Rawal), a distant uncle from village came unexpectedly to their house. After the entry of Chacha, they make small adjustments for their guest’s comfort & it leads to big trouble when this Chacha decides to stick to this family for an indefinite period. He farts occasionally, which are also some painful strike for the family. But, there are other many problems that the family faces with Chachaji like the couple had to compromise the comfort of their AC because Chachaji invades their bedroom. That is when the couple starts thinking ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge’. Due to this atithi, Puneet loses his peace of mind & Munmun loses her independence. Therefore, the couple attempts many plans to let this unwanted atithi out which makes the movie really comedy.
It is Sharad Joshi’s story, Tushar Hiranandani, Robin Bhatt and Ashwni Dhir did excellent screenplay. An appreciable cinematography has been presented by Aseem Bajaj. Good editing work is contributed by Dharmendra Sharma. As a director, Ashwni Dhir did an amazing work. Songs ‘ Beedi Jalaile ’ and ‘ Na Jaane Tum Kab Aaoge ’ are very funny.
Paresh Rawal is just outstanding in the movie. Konkona Sen’s acting is very natural. Ajay Devgan is also worth watching.
Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge very well captures the lifestyle of modern working couple, who have to undergo the excessively-long overstay of a unwanted relative. The story, though not much unique, but told in such a way that it brings in a freshness.
The movie very well captures the lifestyle of modern working couple, who have to undergo the excessively-long overstay of a unwanted relative. The story, though not much unique, but told in such a way that it brings in a freshness. The ending of the movie has an unexpected twist for its viewers.
Atithi tum kab jaoge is entertaining, emotional & superb comedy.

Don’t be a stupid, be an idiot

Director:     Rajkumar Hirani
Producer:   Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Writter:      Rajkumar Hirani,  Abhijat Joshi
Star Cast:    Aamir Khan,  R. Madhavan, Sharman Josh ,Kareena Kapoor, Boman  Irani
Rating:      * * * * 1/2
Raj Kumar Hirani; the name is enough to figure out the extent of success of his 3 IDIOTS after MUNNABHAI series. Munnabhai left ‘ jaadu ki jhappi’ as the residue in viewers’ heart and this time is Hirani’s ‘all izz whel’ (read as all is well) that has captured the attention.
The essence of ‘3 Idiots’ is ‘listening to heart and pursuing your dreams’ focusing on today’s education system’s impact in students’ mind.
‘3 Idiots’ is Aamir’s next after the record breaker ‘Ghajini’. Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman; earlier co-starred in ‘Rang de basanti’ and this time, they have worked as the 3 Idiots. The movie’s story is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller ‘five point someone’.
Rancho (Aamir), Farhan (R.Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) are three friends who meet at Imperial College of Engineering. Rancho is a wealthy genius while Farhan and Raju belong to typical middle class families. Boman Irani as Viru Sahastrabuddhe, the Dean of the college, plays the villain character of the film, whose ways were against to that of Rancho. Moreover, Rancho and Viru’s daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor) fall in love with each other, which adds further bitterness to Viru’s mind against Rancho.
The story is framed as a flashback from the present day, five years after graduation.
3 Idiots is not only setting the Indian box office on fire, but also is equally impressive in the overseas circuit. As per the report, the movie has set a record by grossing over Rs 100 Crores in four days after release and has done exceptionally well in Australia & UK.
Dialogues of “3 Idiots” are written well, and delivered in an effective manner. Music is delight to the ears. The choreography of “All izz well” and “Zoobie Doobie” are eye-catching. Aamir Khan has given his usual best, while Madhavan and Sharman have delivered remarkable performance too. Although Kareena’s role doesn’t have much screen space, it has created a strong impact on the viewer.
After the grand success of 3 Idiots Hirani says that he may do a Fantasy film next.
3 Idiots is emotional, entertaining, different and has tremendous youth appeal.

Shaap on Bollywood

Director: Vikram Bhatt Producer: Vikram Bhatt
Star Cast: Aditya Narayan, Rahul Dev, Shweta Agarwal, Shubh Joshi
Rating: * * * 1/2
After 1920 and Raaz, Vikram goes a step ahead in his horror flicks. The limits of scary scenes of horror movies set by Bollywood till date are undoubtedly crossed by Shaapit and they are more than enough to make you sit on the edge of your seat.
Audience enjoyed the fear while watching the movie. It starts with Aman (Aditya) proposing Kaaya (Shweta) and they goes on a long drive. At that time, their car takes a spin and bounces of the road and almost kills Kaaya. They rush to the hospital. When Shweta’s parents come to see them, they reveal to them the curse their family had for the last 300 years by a Brahmin. According to it no girl in their family can marry and if she tries to do so then her death is inevitable. But deep in love Aman decides to fight this curse to marry her. He along with his friend Shom (Shubh Joshi) takes the help of a famous occult professor Pashupati (Rahul Dev).
The professor at first doesn’t agree helping Aman but after Aman shows him his dedication then he decides to help him out. Rest of the film deals with adventurous journey of Aman, Kaaya, their close pal and professor Pahsupati of winning over fate.
Aditya Narayan is extremely natural. Also, it's a rare thing for a Bollywood hero to sing his own songs and he did it really well. Shweta Agarwal is impressive; Shubh Joshi is just perfect for the part. Rahul Dev has portrayed the role of the professor nicely. Murli Sharma, Nishigandha Wad as Shweta's parents act ably.
Vikram Bhatt has become an authority on the films referred to the genre of horror. Shaapit is a well made film with high technical and production values. Everything in the film appears pretty convincing. This film proved the fact that when it comes to handling horror films then no one can beat Vikram.
Shaapit is interesting, different love story and a great scary fun.
